A Step-By-Step Guide To Get Your Vehicle Repaired

Below are some of the steps and terms you’ll likely hear when getting your vehicle repaired:

Step 1 – Getting an appraisal

Your insurance company will have an adjuster look at your vehicle and assess the damage. You can either have the adjuster come to your vehicle or utilize a drive-thru claim facility that many insurance companies offer. Once they have assessed the damage, they will send you an estimate, along with a check to cover the repairs.

Step 2 – Choosing a repair shop

You can have your vehicle repaired at any licensed collision repair shop. Step 3 – Dropping your car off

When you drop your vehicle off to be repaired, bring a copy of the estimate, along with the check from the insurance company, if available. If you don’t have the check at that time, it’s also accepted upon post-repair vehicle pickup. If your vehicle is unable to drive, 1Collision Worcester can arrange to have it picked up and towed to our facility.

Step 4 – Disassembly

The first step the body shop will follow is to order any necessary parts and disassemble your vehicle. During this process, we ensure there isn’t any damage that was missed during the insurance company’s assessment. Often times, there is hidden damage that isn’t apparent until a bumper or fender has been removed. If additional damage is discovered, 1Collision Worcester will reach out to the insurance company so an adjuster can take another look and provide a revised estimate.

Step 5 – The Supplement

If additional damage is discovered, the insurance company will write up an additional estimate that is referred to as a supplement. This part of the process can take a couple of days. The supplement is sent directly to 1Collision Worcester and there is nothing required of the customer. We will contact you to let you know if a supplement is required, and keep you up to date along the way.

Step 6 – Repairing your vehicle

The actual repair for your vehicle can vary based upon the damage. An experienced shop is important because they can deliver a final repair that is undetectable. There’s nothing worse than paint that doesn’t match or panels that don’t line up. Step 7 – Detailing and delivery

A quality repair shop will clean your entire car prior to delivering it to you. They should take the time to review the work they completed and do a walk around to share the final results with you.
